Waterproof Plywood
Waterproof Plywood (also called BWP Plywood – Boiling Water Proof) is a type of plywood designed to resist water penetration, making it suitable for use in moisture-prone or fully wet areas.
It’s manufactured with high-quality hardwood veneers bonded using phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin under high temperature and pressure, which ensures the glue lines remain intact even when exposed to boiling water for extended periods.
Structure & Manufacturing
-
Core Material – Usually hardwood veneers (gurjan, eucalyptus, etc.) for higher strength.
-
Adhesive – Phenolic resin (PF), which provides waterproof bonding.
-
Layers – Cross-laminated veneer sheets for stability and resistance to warping.
Appearance
-
Smooth surface, can be overlaid with laminate, veneer, or paint.
-
Color – Usually brownish due to phenolic resin, but can be coated or polished.
Key Features
-
100% waterproof – Can withstand boiling water for up to 72 hours without delamination.
-
High strength & durability – Long lifespan even in harsh weather.
-
Termite & borer resistant – Usually treated with preservatives.
-
Dimensionally stable – Minimal expansion or contraction.
-
Weatherproof – Suitable for exterior and marine use.
